The Willow Memory Café drop-in afternoon is held twice a month in The Discovery Room at Mill Waters Heritage Centre and Café, in Sutton in Ashfield. It is for people living with dementia, and for their friends, families, and carers.&nbsp; Visitors can go on short walks, do crafts, or simply relax and socialise at this drop-in afternoon. Held every second and fourth Wednesday of every month, you can drop in any time between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.&nbsp;

The annual Christmas lights switch on is returning to Hucknall and is the perfect time to start the festive celebrations. The event will be held in Hucknall Market Place car park and High Street from 4pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 4 December. It will be an evening of festive fun with Christmas market stalls, hot food and drink, seasonal entertainment and, of course, the all-important light switch on. The big man himself will also be making an appearance as Santa will meet guests as he arrives on his sleigh.

A magical display of Christmas trees provided by the local community. Grand opening Festival Night first Wednesday of December. &nbsp; Free admission, wheelchair accessible. Willow Tree Memory Café - November 13

This event will focus on creativity and how this is now being seen as the new currency, which is driving economic growth and how local businesses can harness this. These events are designed to help local, regional, and national organisations make new connections, while also providing information in support of topical issues that are impacting local companies. In attendance we usually see council leaders, business directors, and CEOs, together with representatives from many of our partners, such as the Department for Business and Trade, East Midlands Chamber, West Notts College, local universities, trade associations, and of course many local businesses <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/business-licensing/business-support/business-news/business-events/" target="_blank">Anyone interested in this or future business support events, register here.</a> Once you have been added onto our events register, the Business Support team will review this list prior to any events and will send out an invitation to book a place. Invitations will be sent out based around the theme that is being delivered and to enable as many individual businesses as possible to attend - please limit your company booking to one person. We are happy to keep a reserve list of additional places you require, should they become available. This would be on a first come, first served basis.

Ashfield Business Leaders Networking event  

Ashfield’s skyline is set to come to life as the fireworks extravaganza is back by public demand.&nbsp; Ashfield District Council will bring back the fireworks night for the first time in over a decade with Sparks in the Park on Saturday 2 November.&nbsp;
Sutton Lawn will once again play host to the FREE night of entertainment, which will include a laser show and fairground rides as well as the all-important fireworks.
<div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s">There will also be a stage featuring live entertainment with performances from Danielle, as seen at Ashfield Show, and a DJ as well as entertainment for the children.&nbsp;</div>

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of the Council, said: “We are delighted to be bring back our fireworks spectacular with ‘Sparks in the Park’ and look forward to welcoming&nbsp;everyone to Sutton Lawn for our fireworks extravaganza.
“It will truly be a night to remember. I know numerous residents have asked for this to return over the years and once again your Council has listened. Please come along on Saturday 2 November to enjoy yet another fabulous free event organised by Ashfield District Council, in partnership with Out of the Box Events.”
The fairground rides will be open from 12pm with the rest of the event starting from 4pm including food and drink stands and on-stage entertainment. The laser show will be from 6.30pm, followed by the main event of the night – a musical firework show – from 8.30pm.
Out of the Box Events, who worked with the Council on the return of the Ashfield Show and a number of summer events, is running the firework extravaganza.

Wild Families! Pumpkins  

Join ATTFE for their mindfulness and relaxation courses where you will learn about the 7 principles of mindfulness, various breathing methods, self-awareness, being kinder to yourself and how to use mindfulness to support you to feel calmer and less stressed. You will have an understanding of how to set aside time to focus on the mind-body connection and where mindfulness can be used in daily life. The fun starts at Sutton in Ashfield Library where you can meet the friendly library and learning team, before you set off on a journey of discovery along our trail, following clues until you reach Inspires brand new centre. At High Pavement House we will have the following activities taking place: Paper Plane&nbsp;– creating and flying – there will be a prize for the paper plane flown the furthest distance – prize is a coding robot Drop in activities – Craft, Cupcake Decorating, Printable Calendar, Drumming Digits. You’ll receive a warm welcome from the college and adult learning tutors who will be pleased to show you around. Inspires High Pavement Launch

The annual Ashfield Food and Drink festival returns to Hucknall on Sunday 18 August from 10am - 4pm. &nbsp; The event brings together independent traders of food and drinks onto the high street of Hucknall.
You will find artisan breads, cheeses, pizza, baked goods, craft beer, Asian, Indian, Jamaican and Nigerian Street food and so much more.&nbsp;

Willow Tree Memory Café - August 14

Ashfield District Council is bringing back the Ashfield Show for 2024, for the first time in over a decade. Following the success of the inaugural Ashfield Day in 2022, which had 12,000 people flock to Sutton Lawn to enjoy a day of free family fun, the council has decided to extend the event and bring back the Ashfield Show. Sutton Lawn will play host to the three-day event, which will run on Friday 9 August, Saturday 10 August, and Sunday 11 August. Full details of the event will be released in the coming months, but visitors can expect live music, community performances, food, drink, the market village, activities, and so much more.

We are excited to share with you The Big Sing and Dance, a partnership between Captivate, Inspire Music, and Ashfield District Council aiming to enhance the current project, The Big Sing, by incorporating dance and more music. THE BIG SING &amp; DANCE will take place on Monday, July 15th, 2024, at Kirkby Plaza, Market Place, NG17 7AL. Groups should arrive from 12:30pm, and guests should arrive from 2pm. As part of the offer, you will receive:

<li>Resources to learn the songs and dances with your students</li>
<li>Participation on Monday, July 15th, to perform with other schools and take part in workshops with artists. The performance for the public and guests will begin at 2pm.</li>

The Willow Memory Café drop-in afternoon is held twice a month in The Discovery Room at Mill Waters Heritage Centre and Café, in Sutton in Ashfield. It is for people living with dementia, and for their friends, families, and carers.&nbsp; Visitors can go on short walks, do crafts, or simply relax and socialise at this drop-in afternoon. Held every second and fourth Wednesday of every month, you can drop in any time between 1pm and 3pm.&nbsp;

Willow Tree Memory Café - July 10

Expect live music on stage, activities, trade and community stalls, food court, full-size funfair, a bar, free face painting, and bags of fun for the whole family at <a href="/places-to-visit/titchfield-park">Titchfield Park</a> in Hucknall. This event is free and will be on between 11am and 10pm.&nbsp;

Hucknall Festival 

Stay and play at our Wild Tots! Café in The Discovery Room, at Mill Waters Heritage Centre and Café, every Thursday during term time between 9am and 3pm.  Pop in any time to play with our Wild Tots! toys best for children aged between 0 and 4-years-old. There is a free cup of juice or water for every child, and grown-ups are welcome (but not obliged to!) purchase food and drink at Mill Waters Café. <a href="https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/">Ashfield District Council</a> is working in partnership with <a href="https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/">Nottinghamshire County Council</a> and <a href="https://nottsoutdoors.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/">Notts Outdoors</a>.

Wild Tots! Café

The popular outdoor cinema event is back in Selston this summer, so pack your picnics, popcorn, blankets and chairs, and get ready to enjoy a free day of films on the award-winning Selston Country Park.&nbsp; There are two outdoor cinema screenings. The first will be the family film of The Little Mermaid from 1pm, with an evening screening of The Greatest Showman playing from 6.30pm.&nbsp; Saturday 22nd June 12pm - 10pm.&nbsp;

Games and activities for all the family, as well as live local music. With more than 30 stalls including Carers in Hucknall, Everyone Active, Ashfield Voluntary Action, Age UK Connect, and many more. This event is free to attend.&nbsp;

Hucknall Family Wellbeing Roadshow 

The Ashfield Plant and Garden Fair returns to Sutton on 19 May from 9am to 1pm.
Due to renovation work set for Portland Square, the market will be held on Sutton North car park (near Costa Coffee) in Sutton town centre.
Get on down if you are looking for indoor and outdoor garden items such as:

Ashfield Plant and Garden Fair 

May 2024 marks 30 years since Brierley Forest Park opened! To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting a small event with The Brierley Café. Join us on Saturday 11 May from 11.30am - 1.30pm for free face painting, arts and crafts, and a nature trail. There might even be some special tasty treats available to buy from the café.

30 Years of Brierley Forest Park

Wild Tots! Fairy Tales

Ashfield residents were able to view famous works of art in Sutton in Ashfield, as part of a free mobile museum tour across the UK.  The district was chosen as one of the places for the Art Explora Mobile Museum to visit, as part of a 12-week tour with Tate and MuMo. The mobile museum had a unique trailer designed by French designer Matali Crasset, and hosted the exhibition - Soup, Socks and Spiders! Art of the Everyday. The exhibition included paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, film, digital art, and sculpture by artists including Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Dorothea Tanning, Fernand Léger, Nam June Paik, Phyllida Barlow, Roy Lichtenstein, Vanessa Bell, and Wolfgang Tillmans. During the week schools and community groups received guided tours of the exhibitions and workshops hosted by the Mobile Museum team. As part of this unique tour, Ashfield District Council hosted a free event in Sutton in Ashfield to view the exhibition and visitors took part in creative workshops, participated in arts and crafts, and listened to music by Inspire’s Red Hot Band.

Art Explora Mobile Museum

THIS EVENT IS NOW OVER, but look out for other events at Nottinghamshire Libraries. Watch the award-winning Broadway musical hit, On the Town, at a dementia-friendly screening of the film at Kirkby in Ashfield Library. The 1949 film features Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Jules Munshin as sailors on a 24-hour shore leave to see the sights, and includes famous tunes such as New York, New York.  This relaxed screening is particularly suitable for people living with dementia and memory challenges, and their family and friends - but anyone is welcome. Please feel free to talk, sing, and move during the screening. Doors will open 15 minutes before the film starts and there will be a 20-minute interval. The screening is sensitive to the audience's needs concerning lighting and volume, and there is a quiet space for anyone needing a brief break from the film in the main library.

Ashfield District Council celebrated the annual event of Commonwealth Day with a flag raising ceremony. The theme for the service this year was ‘One Resilient Common Future’. Commonwealth Day is held every year on 11 March, and marks the start of a week-long series of events and activities happening around the globe. Chairman of the council, Cllr Dale Grounds, hosted the ceremony outside the council offices in Kirkby in Ashfield. Commonwealth Day 2024

After the success of the Discover Ashfield Awards 2022, this year's event returned to Kirkby Leisure Centre to mark the achievements of 2023. There were eight categories to celebrate people, groups, places, and businesses across Ashfield within the last 12 months.&nbsp; The awards were presented by Discover Ashfield ambassadors including the chair of Discover Ashfield, Martin Rigley OBE, vice chair Louise Knott, ATTFE College principal Liz Barrett OBE, and Pete Edwards, and the evening's entertainment was from local artists The Red Hot Band.
