<p>Ashfield District Council will celebrate the annual event of Commonwealth Day with a flag raising ceremony, with the theme for the service this year as One Resilient Common Future.&nbsp;<br><br>Commonwealth Day is held annually on 11 March, and marks the start of a week-long series of events and activities around the globe.&nbsp;<br><br>Chairman of the council, Councillor Dale Grounds, will host the ceremony outside the council offices in Kirkby in Ashfield. <span>Commonwealth Day is annually held across the country on the second Monday in March, and celebrates the bond between Commonwealth nations around the world. <br><br><a rel="noopener" href="https://thecommonwealth.org/commonwealth-day" target="_blank"><span class="button-highlight">Learn more about Commonwealth Day</span></a><a rel="noopener" href="https://thecommonwealth.org/commonwealth-day" target="_blank" title="Learn more about Commonwealth Day."></a><br></span></p>

Commonwealth Day 2024

<p>Ashfield residents will be able to view famous works of art in Sutton in Ashfield as part of a mobile museum tour across the UK.<br><br>The district has been chosen as one of the places for the Art Explora Mobile Museum to visit, as part of a&nbsp;12-week tour with Tate and MuMo.<br><br>The mobile museum is a unique trailer designed by French designer Matali Crasset, and is hosting the exhibition - Soup, Socks and Spiders! Art of the Everyday.<br><br>The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, film, digital art, and sculpture by artists including Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Dorothea Tanning, Fernand Léger, Nam June Paik, Phyllida Barlow, Roy Lichtenstein, Vanessa Bell, and Wolfgang Tillmans.<br><br>During the week schools and community groups will be receiving guided tours of the exhibitions and workshops hosted by the Mobile Museum team.<br><br>As part of this unique tour, Ashfield District Council is hosting a free event in Sutton in Ashfield to view the exhibition and visitors can take part in creative workshops, participate in arts and crafts, have their faces painted, and listen to music by Inspire’s Red Hot Band.&nbsp;<br><br>The free event will be held from 10am to 2pm. There is no need to book.&nbsp;</p>

Art Explora Mobile Museum

<p>May 2024 marks 30 years since Brierley Forest Park opened! To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting a small event with The Brierley Café.<br><br>Join us on Saturday 11 May from 11.30am to 1.30pm for free face painting, arts and crafts, and a nature trail.<br><br>There might even be some special tasty treats available to buy from the café!</p>

<p>We are excited to share with you The Big Sing and Dance, a partnership between Captivate, Inspire Music, and Ashfield District Council aiming to enhance the current project, The Big Sing, by incorporating dance and more music.<br><br>THE BIG SING AND DANCE will take place on Monday 15 July 2024, at Kirkby Plaza, Market Place, NG17 7AL.<br><br>Groups should arrive from 12.30pm, and guests should arrive from 2pm. <p>Ashfield District Council is bringing back the Ashfield Show for 2024, for the first time in over a decade.<br><br>Following the success of the inaugural Ashfield Day in 2022, which had 12,000 people flock to Sutton Lawn to enjoy a day of free family fun, the council has decided to extend the event and bring back the Ashfield Show.<br><br>Sutton Lawn will play host to the three-day event, which will run on Friday 9 August, Saturday 10 August, and Sunday 11 August. Full details of the event will be released in the coming months, but visitors can expect live music, community performances, food, drink, the market village, activities, and so much more.</p>

Ashfield Show

<p>The annual Ashfield Food and Drink festival returns to Hucknall on Sunday 18 August from 10am to 4pm. &nbsp;<br><br>The event brings together independent traders of food and drinks onto the high street of Hucknall.</p>
<p>You will find artisan breads, cheeses, pizza, baked goods, craft beer, Asian, Indian, Jamaican, and Nigerian street food, and so much more.&nbsp;</p>

Spooky Crafts 

<p><strong>Ashfield’s skyline is set to come to life as the fireworks extravaganza is back by public demand.&nbsp; Ashfield District Council will bring back the fireworks night for the first time in over a decade with Sparks in the Park on Saturday 2 November. <br><br></strong>Sutton Lawn will once again play host to the FREE night of entertainment, which will include a laser show and fairground rides, as well as the all-important fireworks.<br><br>There will also be a stage featuring live entertainment with performances from Danielle, as seen at Ashfield Show, and a DJ as well as entertainment for the children. <br><br>The fairground rides will be open from 12pm with the rest of the event starting from 4pm, including food and drink stands and on-stage entertainment. The laser show will be from 6.30pm, followed by the main event of the night, a musical firework show, from 8.30pm.<br><br>Councillor Jason Zadrozny, leader of the council, said: “We are delighted to be bring back our fireworks spectacular with ‘Sparks in the Park’ and look forward to welcoming everyone to Sutton Lawn for our fireworks extravaganza.<br><br>“It will truly be a night to remember. I know numerous residents have asked for this to return over the years and once again your council has listened. Please come along on Saturday 2 November to enjoy yet another fabulous free event organised by Ashfield District Council, in partnership with Out of the Box Events.”<br><br>Out of the Box Events, who worked with the council on the return of the Ashfield Show and a number of summer events, is running the firework extravaganza.</p>

Sparks in the Park

<p>This event at Mour Hotel, in Sherwood Business Park, will focus on creativity and how this is now being seen as the new currency, which is driving economic growth and how local businesses can harness this.<br><br>These events are designed to help local, regional, and national organisations make new connections, while also providing information in support of topical issues that are impacting local companies. <br><br>In attendance we usually see council leaders, business directors, and CEOs, together with representatives from many of our partners, such as the Department for Business and Trade, East Midlands Chamber, West Notts College, local universities, trade associations, and of course many local businesses.<br><br><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/business-licensing/business-support/business-news/business-events/" target="_blank"><span class="button-highlight">Anyone interested in this or future business support events, register at the Ashfield District Council website</span></a><br><br>Once you have been added onto our events register, the Business Support team will review this list prior to any events and will send out an invitation to book a place. Invitations will be sent out based around the theme that is being delivered and to enable as many individual businesses as possible to attend - please limit your company booking to one person.<br><br>We are happy to keep a reserve list of additional places you require, should they become available. This would be on a first come, first served basis.</p>

<p>Join in <a tabindex="-1" class="html-a xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r xexx8yu x4uap5 x18d9i69 xkhd6sd x1hl2dhg x16tdsg8 x1vvkbs"></a>on Wednesday 28th May at 11am to create your very own ice lolly stick bird feeder!&nbsp;&nbsp;It’s a fantastic way to provide food for all the birds that come to visit your garden during the school holidays!</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Willow Memory Café drop-in afternoon is held twice a month in The Discovery Room at Mill Waters Heritage Centre and Café, Kings Mill Reservoir, in Sutton in Ashfield. It is for people living with dementia, and for their friends, families, and carers.&nbsp;<br><br>Visitors can go on short walks, take part in crafts, or simply relax and socialise at this drop-in afternoon. Held on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, you can drop in any time between 1pm and 3pm.<br><br>There is no need to book and activities are free. Food and drinks are available to purchase from Mill Waters Café. Please note car parking is free for the first hour and charges start at £1 for 2 hours.<br><br>Willow Tree Memory Café is run by volunteers. <p><span class="heading-3">Selston Films in the Park is returning on Saturday 21 June with 2 huge releases being shown on the big screen in scenic surroundings.</span></p>
<p>Selston Country Park will be welcoming everyone’s favourite bear for the 2pm showing with Paddington in Peru. The untold story of the Witches of Oz will be shared at 6pm as Wicked will get film-lovers singing into the evening.</p>
<p>Throughout the day there will be a bar, inflatables, face painting, and acoustic acts playing in the café.</p>
<p>This is a free event; no tickets or booking required - just bring your chairs, blankets, and snacks.</p>

<p><span class="heading-3">Adventures 1st Birthday Weekend</span></p>
<p>Adventures, which is nestled on the picturesque shore of King’s Mill Reservoir at the popular Mill Waters site in Sutton-in-Ashfield, will be hosting the two-day celebration on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.</p>
<p>The attraction – operated and managed by Nottinghamshire County Council’s outdoor environmental education service, Notts Outdoors – will be a haven for thrill-seekers throughout the party weekend.</p>
<p>They will be able to enjoy Adventures’ high-flying attractions, including:</p>
<p>The High Trek Plus course, which features a series of incredible obstacles – including balance bars, Indiana bridges, swinging logs, and zip lines.</p>
<p>The Net Park, which allows visitors to escape the buzz of everyday life and bounce and explore their way along a unique adventure.</p>
<p>The 100-metre Zip Line Experience, which gives adrenaline junkies the chance to race each other.</p>
<p>The Drop, which allows daredevils to take a leap of faith and land safely on a giant inflatable air bag from four, six or nine metres.</p>
<p>Visitors will also be able to take advantage of a host of free inflatable activities on offer, including a giant football dartboard, bungee run and gladiator inflatables, while there will also be fun competitions and giveaways during the two days.</p>

<p><span class="heading-3">Ashfield Show promises to be bigger and better as it returns for 2025.</span></p>
<p>Three days jam-packed with live music, entertainment, fairground rides and market village (and hopefully plenty of sunshine) will be returning to Sutton Lawn on 8, 9 and 10 August.</p>
<p>It will include tribute acts to some of the biggest stars on the planet, community performers and a whole host of entertainment the whole family can enjoy.</p>
<p>This event is FREE to attend and will have plenty to keep everyone happy.</p>
<p>The full line up will be revealed nearer the time.</p>

<p><span class="heading-3">The Ashfield Food and Drink Festival will return to Hucknall High Street on Sunday 17 August 2025.</span></p>
<p>The annual food and drink festival will offer a day of smells, sounds, and tastes from across the globe. It will include produce, street food, cheeses, baked goods, beers, rum, cider, and kitchen gifts.</p>
<p>Visitors will be treated to live music and live cookery demonstrations throughout the day.</p>

<p>On Sunday 17th August from 11am - 4pm, the MakerSpace doors are open for people to go and have a look around and talk to the current member volunteers.&nbsp;</p>
