North Kirkby Gateway
Kirkby in Ashfield
PROJECT STATUS: Planning underway
REGENERATION STRAND: Succeed in Ashfield
ADDRESS: Low Moor Road, Kirkby in Ashfield
The redevelopment of an underused town centre site for a health hub and housing will transform the northern part of the town around Kirkby Plaza. The new building will provide a central health hub for GP surgeries, a drive through pharmacy and space for the Portland Pathways project.
The Pathways project is a skills and employability initiative, working with employers to support people with learning difficulties and disabilities to access employment. There will also be a new build café on the Plaza and to the rear of the gateway building, the redevelopment of the ‘Pond Hole’ site will provide up to 38 new low energy homes with affordable housing.
There are 12 GP surgeries, dental practices, and pharmacies within a 200 metre radius of the town centre, and the aim is to consolidate as many of these health services as possible onto one site. This will help free up land in front of Morrisons supermarket to generate a new development opportunity.
Apart from providing modernised and improved health facilities, this will also offer greater opportunities for community and cultural activities.
