One of the ways in which this strategy moved forward was the Ashfield Leisure Transformation programme with its new leisure facility in Kirkby in Ashfield, additional water space at Hucknall Leisure Centre, and investment in Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton in Ashfield. The Feel Good Food project launched in Sutton in Ashfield by Michelin Star award-winning chef Jean Christophe Novelli in May 2019 offered cook and eat sessions and healthy eating events to help increase the skills and confidence of residents to eat healthily while also shopping locally.&nbsp;
Following the project, the Feeding Ashfield network was created. This is a network of local food banks, food clubs, and other services (public, private, and voluntary) working to tackle food insecurities by providing improved access to food and educational opportunities throughout the district. He was furthermore awarded an OBE for his services to the East Midlands COVID-19 Response and to the community of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.&nbsp; Louise Knott Vice Chair Louise is vice principal at West Nottinghamshire College. Claire Hinchley Claire is the acting Director of Strategy and Partnerships at Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust.&nbsp; Edward Johnstone Edward is the assistant principal in charge of development at Portland College. Before joining the college in 2016, Edward ran a series of small businesses specialising in disability support around the country. He is also a trustee of the Cornwater Evergreens charity, helping isolated older people. "Moving here from London I could not believe how friendly and helpful people are in the local shops and organisations." Gary Jordan MBE Gary has held many business and charitable roles during his career, including co-founder and director of The Musketeers CIC, a trustee at John Eastwood Hospice, and Vice Chair of the North Notts Careers Hub. He received an MBE in 2021 for services to the economy and community of Ashfield and Mansfield, and is currently the chair of the Mansfield BID. "As a Discover Ashfield Board member, I feel there are many positive aspects to be gained from the hard work being done in the communities to make Ashfield a better place for residents, businesses and visitors." Councillor Helen-Ann Smith Helen-Ann is the Deputy Leader and Executive Lead Member for Parks and Environmental Services at Ashfield Council. She has sat on the council since 2007 and is the District Councillor for Stanton Hill and Teversal.
Jackie Insley Jackie is the Chief Executive Officer for Citizens Advice Central Nottinghamshire, which&nbsp; is formed of Ashfield, Broxtowe, Sherwood and Newark.&nbsp; Councillor Julie Gregory Julie is the scrutiny representative for Ashfield District Council, and represents the Jacksdale and Westwood ward. Councillor Keith Girling Keith is a county councillor for Newark West and cabinet member for the Economic Development and Asset Management Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council.
Kieran Percival Kieran is the Founder of Gardens of Giving CIC, which addresses mental-wellbeing, food poverty, and other social issues within the community.&nbsp; Lee Anderson MP Lee was elected as MP for Ashfield in December 2019. He said: "Ashfield has been the home and workplace to my family for over 150 years. The people of this great area are our best asset. The sense of community is second to none and as I travel and meet people around the district I feel incredibly proud to be their representative in Parliament." Councillor Matthew Relf Matthew was elected to Ashfield District Council in 2018, representing the Sutton Junction and Harlow Wood. He is the portfolio holder for Growth, Regeneration, and Local Planning. Peter Gaw Peter is the chief executive officer of Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries, a Community Benefit Society established to deliver a range of cultural, arts, heritage, learning and library services for Nottinghamshire.&nbsp;
Simon Cartwright&nbsp; Simon is the Chief Officer at Transforming Notts Together.&nbsp;
Simon Martin Simon is a Vice Principal at the Academy Transformation Trust Further Education (ATTFE).
Shaola Olawole Shaola is from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and is the Senior Lead for Employer and Partnerships across the district. Tim Hepke Tim is from ITP Aero, a world leading company in the aeronautical and industrial engines market. Theresa Hodgkinson Theresa became the chief executive of Ashfield District Council in 2021 after 15 years of working for the local authority. "I love being part of a wider team that makes a difference for the communities in Ashfield. Our stakeholders and partners work together and unify efforts to maximise the impact and I feel privileged to be part of this interesting and insightful journey."

Towns Fund Ashfield was awarded £62.6 million in June 2021 as part of the government’s Towns Fund programme. What is the Towns Fund? The Government made £3.6bn available to regenerate more than 100 towns across the UK, and Kirkby in Ashfield and Sutton in Ashfield were chosen in autumn 2019 as two of the towns to receive funding of up to £25 million each. Since then, the Discover Ashfield Board and Ashfield District Council have worked closely with partners in business, education, health, transport, and local elected members to develop the Kirkby in Ashfield and Sutton in Ashfield Town Investment Plan 2021-2030. <a href="https://www.ashfield.gov.uk/media/rrmoogbj/town-investment-plan-2021-to-2030.pdf">Learn about the Investment Plan</a>.&nbsp;
The Government set out three areas of regeneration that the Towns Fund focuses on:

<li>urban regeneration, planning and land use</li>
<li>skills and enterprise infrastructure</li>
<li>digital and transport connectivity.&nbsp;</li>

What happened next A public consultation for Kirkby and Sutton took place in May 2020 where more than 1,300 responses were received, which helped shape the investment plan and the projects included. The Town Investment Plan was developed and submitted in February 2021, and in June 2021, the government announced it was awarding £62.6 million to the Kirkby and Sutton Town Deal. Town Deal Board The Discover Ashfield Board agreed to act as the Town Deal Board following approval from board members and Ashfield District Council’s Cabinet. A Town Deal Board is required to oversee the Towns Fund to ensure there is involvement and engagement with a wide range of people and organisations. The board membership for the Town Deal was expanded to include local MPs, additional community representation and the Integrated Care Partnership. The board acts in an advisory capacity to the Council with regards to the Town Deal. What is the Kirkby and Sutton Town Investment Plan 2021-2030? The investment will deliver jobs and further education opportunities, long-term economic and productivity growth, new homes, improved transport infrastructure, reduced carbon and new cultural and visitor facilities. The investment plan focuses on four areas: business and education; health and wellbeing; boost visitor economy; and Make Ashfield Greener. Kirkby Town Board Kirkby Town Board (KTB) was set up in April 2024 to oversee the development and delivery of a Long-term Plan for Kirkby. Kirkby in Ashfield is part of a national ‘Plan for Towns’ programme and will receive over £19.5million of investment over the next ten years, from 2024 onwards. The purpose of the fund is to invest in local people’s priorities, with the funding split between capital of 75% and revenue of 25%. Ashfield District Council is acting as the accountable body and facilitates the Kirkby Town Board which will oversee the investment. The funding is aligned to the themes of:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Safety and security: e.g. new and improved security infrastructure, such as CCTV and streetlights, additional hotspot policing, local authority wardens&nbsp;</li>
<li>High streets, heritage, and regeneration: e.g. preserving and improving heritage sites in the town, creating, and maintaining parks and green spaces, establishing Business Improvement Districts, running high street rental auctions.</li>
<li>Transport and connectivity: e.g. road improvements, such as improving congested junctions, new programmes to encourage cycling, making the town centre more walkable and accessible.&nbsp;</li>

Kirkby Town Board 

The Board

Discover Ashfield was set up in 2017 and includes representation from a wide range of business, community, and public sector bodies, including academies, further education institutions, and business networking group Mansfield and Ashfield 2020. Community representation is through Citizens Advice Ashfield and Ashfield Voluntary Action. Ashfield District Council facilitates the board which is chaired by a business community representative.
The work done by Discover Ashfield includes raising the profile of the district through positive promotion, creating pride and aspirations in its communities, improving the vibrancy of town centres, encouraging and promoting inward investment, and supporting tourism and the visitor economy in the Ashfield area. Board meetings are held every 6 weeks and the dates and minutes of these can be found&nbsp;<a href="/the-board/" title="The Board">here</a>.&nbsp;

Ashfield Champions
Discover Ashfield Champions live, work, learn, or do business in the area, and lobby to improve the prosperity and success of Ashfield. The aim of the Champions is to develop pride in our communities, increase vibrancy in our town centres, support tourism and the visitor economy, and help people to improve their health and wellbeing.
